In this installment of the morning show we managed to run the gamut of shit going on in both the country and here in Detroit. We spoke about the good things we’re trying to do on Father’s Day, we are helping with a BBQ for the homeless put on by the Detroit Underground Initiative.
Also in this episode we mentions a story about a UK woman who gave her 6 year old daughter a voucher for breast augmentation to be used when she is 16. Commence facepalming now, seriously how fucked up in the head do you have to be to do something like this? How the hell can you expect to teach a young girl she has more self worth than how she looks? Well, here is how……
Finally we are trying to help fellow broadcaster and brother in arms CJ get out of jail. He was picked up due to the stupidity of the state of Michigan. It’s a long an complicated story, but the long and short of it he was popped for being unable jump through hoops he shouldn’t had to jump through anyways. Recently a news story out of Orlando has been getting quite a bit of attention nation wide. The organization Food Not Bombs is making waves in the Orlando area by simply feeding the homeless for free. Apparently the city government wants a cut of the money being used for feeding the homeless folks. To date (as of the writing of this article) seven people have been arrested for being charitable.
Well as a city who has it’s fair share of displaced citizens, the good people at Tapdetroit.com and susbsequently we at The Phonetic Bells Network feel that it’s our duty to take a stand and show people that ANYONE can help and EVERYONE should. Olin Ezra Wade and Lee Estes formed a group called Detroit Underground Initiative and are using their local popularity to give back in a BIG way.
Father’s day 2011 down in the heart of Detroit DUI,Tap Detroit and members from The Phonetic Bells Network are going to be grilling up burgers and hotdogs for as many hungry people that show up. Starting at 11am, an army of people will be descending on Cass Park to help feed the people and we’ll also be bringing down garbage bags to help clean up the park.
Olin and crew did a trial run on Monday which was a huge success, though they were met with some opposition from the white collar folks (one even through a bottle at Ezra’s head) they pushed forward and handed out over 160 lunches to those who needed it most. This time though, they want to help more folks and to do so we need you to donate money or even time (by spreading the word and reposting this story).

They actually have put out a series of documentaries (Camp Fema, Enemy of the State and Don’t Tread On Me) and at first Liz and I were a little worried about how these seemed so slanted one way. Thankfully after talking with Debbie, we understand how they make documentaries that go after BOTH sides.
