We class up this week show a bit. We aren't just gonna do horror movies like always. We'll be going into the world of drama and melodrama, where bad things never happen to people. We'll be discussing nice sweet movies like Deliverance which contains no rape at all. Also we'll be talking about a cute movie all about kids, funnily enough called Kids, where a group pre-teens in no way pass the AIDS virus around like a blunt. Then we get familial on your ass with a tender story about how enormous amounts of money and greed don't tear a family apart like used toilet paper with A Simple Plan. Later we turn the lights down low and talk about two lovers that would never part even if Keith David had really good black tar heroin that he traded for head, with Requiem for a Dream. All of this love has to of course lead to marriage and into our next film all about the joys of marriage, family, and dead hookers, with Very Bad Things. Finally what most of America has been waiting for from us, we hang out and rap about the Romans favorite deity and probably just the most uplifting, joyous and non-brutal film ever made, Passion of the Christ. And if you are one of the people who didn't detect any sarcasm in any of this....we have several Brooklyn Bridges for sale on our website for you to check out.

Welcome to the brand new, shiny and semi polished Bad Ass Avenue. We kicked it off with a discussion about Atheism with Tom Sullivan, Billy Zebubba, Wally Wojciechowski and Rob Sherman. As well as all the people in the chat.
The idea behind Bad Ass Avenue is to open a dialogue and get some ideas flowing. We’ll be covering topics that are truly important and not just the made up spin control topics you hear broadcast over the “terrorist news network” and other outlets and channels.
We’re aren’t about propagating fear and confusion or twisting the facts to fit some religious or skewed moral code. We are open to all topic ideas and willing to discuss everything in a semi reasonable fashion. Sure we may get heated and we may say some colorful words, but we will always be truthful and honest….almost to a fault.
I mentioned my comment to a woman who posted a comment on this picture through a friends facebook wall. Here it is in it’s entirety.
“I stopped believing in imaginary friends when I was 5. My life has been happy and peaceful due to intelligence not blind allegiance. Your “god” is a thought construct, put forth to ease the minds of the weak and frightened.
Your prayers fall on deaf ears….correction, they fall on nonexistent ears. This country is over run with cults of all denominations, from Jesus lovers to comet riders.
God exists cuz you don’t believe in yourself. That YOU are a capable individual and that YOU are responsible for your own actions. i.e. “god’s will” is utter bullshit.
You indoctrinate your lives right down to it’s very roots (your children) and free thinking is forbidden. You can teach morals, rules, discipline, Love and Understanding and a whole list of other of “god’s teachings” without the god part.
In fact, once you leave out Jesus, his woman raping father and the band of merry men (and one woman)…..you stand a pretty good chance of raising an intelligent and respectable member of society.”
Tune in next week when we’ll be talking with CJ Plain from The New Age Murda Show about those Westboro Baptist assholes

We man-up this week and delve into the massive world of Actionploitation cinema. We here at Death By DVD long for the days when one man armies, armed with only witty repartee (and the occasional napalm spraying semi to fully automatic sub machine gun), held our multiplexes in a death grip, destroying the weak kneed sissy boy competition. In them there days you could save the world with the simple act of squashing one evil dictator with an industrial strength hydrolic press. This week we take the action express train all the way back to the beginning of the Actionplotation genre with it's Arny roots and sail through to even when a Swayze type could garner audience acclaim. The testosterone should get pretty damn thick, enough to eat on a sandwich with a side of coleslaw and cheddar chili fries (on sale soon at your neighborhood Applebees). Commando, Action Jackson, Invasion USA, Tango and Cash, Bloodsport, Predator, Red Dawn.

This week's show is another one suggested by one of our producers Merrie. We do domestic terror with a show all about classic killer kid movies. What is it about those shifty little smiles and beady eyes that just freaks us all the hell out. Whether it's done with blunt instruments or just plain old manipulation these little bastards seem to always get the job down...and all the time with a smile. So, tune in and learn all sorts of new arguments in favor of birth control. The Orphan, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, The Bad Seed, The Omen, Frailty.

This week we focus on independent exploitation films from the 70's to 85. Why so specific? Well there is a common thread here. All films featured on this show are all contained and reviewed in the excellent book by Stephen Thrower (yes Coil fans, that Stephen Thrower) Nightmare U.S.A. An excellent retrospective on independent exploitation films from the period. Not only does he talk about some of the bigger names, he also unearths long forgotten films that are classics in their own right. This week we discuss films from that book as well as shedding light on some of the absoludicrous (check the Mr. T dictionary it's a real word!) films that MUST be seen to be believed. Don't Go in the House, Maniac, Messiah of Evil, Malatesta's Carnival of Blood, and Return of the Aliens Deadly Spawn (aka The Deadly Spawn).
